Marina of 200 berths at Sant'Ambroggio, in the commune of Lumio, on the Balagne coast of Corsica.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north, rounding the Punta di Spano. Entrance between two lit jetties, but the channel shoals towards the sides, so keep to the middle of the pass; it is stated at 2.2 m and boats near 2 m should take care, as some have grounded on the way in. The port is mainly motorboats, with few sailboats and those taken bow-in, and it works as a busy rental base with a rush at the fuel pump when boats return around 5pm. VHF 9. Good shelter from all sectors except a narrow north-northwest swell into the outer basin.
Practical
The harbour office is staffed in season but closed at weekends, when calls and VHF often go unanswered, so book by phone on a weekday; the staff take lines, fill water tanks and take rubbish away. Water and electricity on the pontoons, fuel berth with diesel and petrol. Showers and laundry on site, but the sanitary block is paid, opens only in office hours of about 9am to 7pm and closes on public holidays, with one shower each for men and women. Prices are lower than Calvi. Small grocery and restaurants within the marina. Calvi and its supermarkets are 7 km south by road.
Ashore
Beach of Sant'Ambroggio at 200 m, sand and shingle. The restaurant Les Mille Ports at the marina is well regarded. The Lumio hill village sits 3 km inland with the 11th century Pisan church of San Petru. The Tramway de la Balagne stops at Sant'Ambroggio for Calvi and Ile-Rousse in summer, about 30 minutes and near 8 euros return.
History
The marina was built in the 1970s as part of the Sant'Ambroggio resort development and later named after Eugene Ceccaldi, a Corsican figure of the local community.
