Sandy anchorage in the south of the Baie d'Algajola, Balagne coast of Corsica, between Calvi and L'Île-Rousse.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The bottom is sand, but it is soft and loose and an anchor can plough and drag once the wind gets up to 15 to 20 knots, so the bay suits settled weather only. Shelter from NE, E and SE winds. Exposed to the prevailing W to NW libeccio, which kicks up a short chop in the bay. Anchor in 6 to 8 m with room for about ten boats.
Practical
Port Eugène Ceccaldi at Sant'Ambroggio 1.1 nm NE for diesel, water, sanitary blocks and a chandlery. Port de Calvi 2.8 nm SW with full services, customs and ferry terminal.
Ashore
Algajola village, 300 m from the beach, is a medieval bourg with Genoese ramparts and a 16th century citadel. A stop on the Calvi to L'Île-Rousse coastal train sits just above the beach. Long sand beach runs 1.5 km between Algajola and Aregno. The Balagne wine road crosses the hillside villages of Sant'Antonino and Pigna 5 km inland.
