Beach

Approach and anchoring

Open approach from the north. A line of yellow buoys about 300 m off the beach marks the swim and watersports zone, so boats anchor outside it in roughly 9 to 12 m on sand; the east end of the beach is unbuoyed, where boats can close in under the citadel clear of its rocky shelf. Holding is good but the bay is wide open to N and NE and rolls in any swell even without wind, so a stern anchor to hold the bow to it helps, and it is best avoided in a westerly swell. Lifeguards may move boats found inside the 300 m strip.

Practical

No harbour services at the anchorage. Port Eugène Ceccaldi is 1.9 nm to the west for fuel, water and technical help; Île-Rousse is 3.3 nm to the northeast for a full marina and a ferry terminal.

Ashore

The village sits behind the beach with a bakery, a Spar, a Super U by the mid-beach roundabout, cafes, a launderette and beach restaurants such as Beau Rivage and La Rotta. Dinghy landing on the steep beach is awkward, easier on the rocky beaches by the citadel walls. The 16th century Genoese citadel stands on the promontory above the bay, and the Bastia to Calvi tramway stops at Algajola station about 300 m from the beach.
