Anchorage off Punta Spano, on the rocky coast between Lumio and Algajola, about 3 nautical miles north-east of Calvi in Balagne, Corsica.

Approach and anchoring

Approach from seaward in good visibility: the bottom is rock and needs a careful choice of drop zone in the sand patches between the slabs, in 6 to 8 m. Holding is uncertain on rock, so a grip anchor and a snorkel check over the anchor both help. The cove is very tight, with rocks about 20 m either side and room for a single boat, and a rock in the middle is hard to make out on a dark night, so keep well clear. Fully exposed to the prevailing westerlies and the libeccio.

No services. Nearest fuel and water at Port Eugène Ceccaldi in Sant'Ambroggio, 1.2 nautical miles to the east. Calvi marina 2.9 nautical miles to the south-west with full services.

Ashore

A small beach bar sits at the head of the cove, and its music can carry across the anchorage at night. Pointe de Spano walking path along the granite coast. The beach of Algajola, 1 nautical mile to the north-east, backed by the fortified village of Algajola with its Genoese citadel built in the 16th century.
