Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north-west into the Gulf of Saint-Florent. The point is marked by the ruins of the Fornali tower, used as a landmark. Do not push far into the bay, where the bottom shoals quickly; anchor in the middle on sand patches in about 4 to 6 metres, clear of the posidonia and the rocks around. The point gives a useful lee from the north swell that works into the head of the gulf. Exposed to easterly winds and the Libeccio swell wrapping round the cape. Saint-Florent harbour lies 0.8 nm east.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Fuel, water, electricity and provisioning at Saint-Florent marina 0.8 nm east. Private harbour Mare E Stagnu 1.1 nm south-east for alternative shelter.
Ashore
A small beach under the point gives a landing for the tender, with a coastal path leading in about ten minutes to a restaurant beside another cove. Genoese tower of Fornali ashore, built 1562, ruined but signposted from the coast path. Saint-Florent old town 1.5 km east by sea or along the shore, with 15th century citadel and cathedral Santa Maria Assunta of Nebbio from the 12th century. Plage de la Roya 2 km east, the town beach.
