Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east by rounding the Punta di Fornali. Sheltered from S, SW, W and NW winds, open to the north and northeast where the libeccio sets up a swell across the gulf. The bottom mixes rock, sand and posidonia; aim for the small sand bank towards the north of the entrance, as much of the cove holds poorly on weed. It is small and shallow, 1.5 to 2.5 m in places, with isolated rocks less than 2 m deep near the middle, so check the set of the anchor.

Practical

Forain anchorage with no services. Saint-Florent marina lies 1.1 NM to the southeast for fuel, water and chandlery. Port Mare e Stagnu is 1.4 NM to the southeast and handles larger boats.

Ashore

The Genoese tower of Fornali, built in the 16th century to watch over the gulf, stands on the headland above the anchorage and is reachable on foot. The town of Saint-Florent with its citadel and market is 2 km around the shore.
