Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south-east after rounding the Punta di Cepo into the Golfe de Saint-Florent. Good sand patches lie among rock and weed, so anchor on clear sand in 3 to 6 m, where holding is firm, and stay more than 100 m off the beach. The bottom rises sharply beyond the 6 m line, with Posidonia over rock near the surface and submerged rocks either side of the beach. Shelter from W, SW, S and SE, but in a strong westerly gusts pour down the valley from every direction and the north of the bay is steadier. Wash from passing traffic works in by day, quiet at night. Open to the north and to the Libeccio building from the NW, when boats should leave for Saint-Florent.

Practical

No services at the anchorage. Saint-Florent marina lies 2.1 NM SE with around 750 berths, fuel, water and a capitainerie on VHF 9. Port privé Mare E Stagnu at Saint-Florent lies 2.4 NM SE.

Ashore

The Fiume Bughju drains the southern slope of the Désert des Agriates, a 15,000-hectare protected coastal massif managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. A kayak or paddleboard can work a couple of kilometres up the river towards a Genoese tower, passing small beaches, though the river can run dry in high summer. Shore path leads to the beach of Saleccia 3 NM north on foot via the Sentier des Douaniers, or 1.5 NM by dinghy along the coast.
