Approach and anchoring

Open roadstead on the south-east side of the gulf. Sheltered from NE and E winds, open to S, SW and SE and to any libeccio swell that wraps into the gulf; a westerly or NW swell can pile up here, so lay a stern anchor to keep the bow into it. Sand holding is good in 3 to 8 metres, with a few rocks in the middle of the bay and to the south. There is no swimming-buoy line, so boats can lie close in, but sound carefully as the water shoals near the beach. By day the powerboats of the sailing base run close to anchored boats from around 09:00 until sunset and throw up wash; nights are quiet. The Rizzanese river mouth at the north end adds silt after heavy rain and shifts the sand.

Practical

No services at the beach. Port de Propriano 2 NM north-east for fuel, water, electricity and a 450-berth marina with full provisioning. Porto Pollo 4.9 NM north-west for a smaller harbour.

Ashore

Beach roughly 3 km long, one of the longest sand beaches of south-west Corsica. A restaurant stands at the south end by the sailing centre, and a short walk leads up to a chapel overlooking the bay. Aerodrome of Propriano-Tavaria behind the dunes. Campomoro and its Genoese tower reachable by coast road about 10 km south.
