Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south-west inside the Golfe de Valinco. Straightforward over clear water with a sand bottom; holding is good in 5 to 6 m. There is room for only two or three boats. Shelter from the northern and eastern sectors under the ridge, fully open to S and SW where the libeccio funnels up the gulf and makes the roadstead untenable; a westerly also sends in a roll. No night marks.
Practical
No services on the beach. Port de Propriano, 0.9 NM SE, provides fuel, water, electricity, WCs, showers and a capitainerie on VHF 9, with all village shops within 300 m of the quays. Porto Pollo marina lies 4.5 NM west as an alternative.
Ashore
Calanca beach itself is a sand strip backed by low maquis. The town of Propriano, 0.9 NM along the coast road, offers a Friday morning market on the quays, several restaurants on the waterfront and supermarkets within 400 m. Préhistoric site of Filitosa, 17 km inland, holds Bronze Age statue-menhirs.
