Anchorage off the Isolella peninsula on the western side of the Gulf of Ajaccio, Corsica, about 4 NM south of the city.

Approach and anchoring

Sand and rock bottom, pick sandy patches clear of posidonia, anchoring on seagrass is forbidden in Corsican waters. Depths run deep here, with boats commonly lying in 20 to 25 metres. Shelter from N, NE and E behind the peninsula and from S, SW and SE on the southern side. The Genoese tower of Isolella stands as an onshore mark. Port Tino Rossi is 4.4 NM to the N.

Forain anchorage with no services. Fuel, water and all stores at Port Tino Rossi in Ajaccio.

Ashore

Tour d'Isolella, a 16th century Genoese watchtower, sits on the headland above the anchorage. Plage de Mare e Sole, also known as Plage d'Argent, lies on the southern side of the peninsula with fine sand over 1 km.

History

The Isolella tower was built by the Republic of Genoa in the 16th century as part of the coastal warning network that ran the length of Corsica against Barbary raids.
