Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north or west across the gulf, and from the north-west follow the yellow markers round a reef off the cove. Anchoring in the cove is now prohibited, so pick up one of the white buoys, each with a metal hoop to reeve a line, lying about 22 metres apart. Watch for rocks at 1 to 1.5 metres along the western edge. The field is exposed to W and NW winds and the swell they push into the gulf, though it is sheltered from the south. Bottom of sand, rock and posidonia.
Practical
Mooring on buoys only, no water or fuel. The buoys are free by day until 6pm but dear overnight, around 50 to 65 euros for an 11 to 13 metre boat, unassisted, with a fee sometimes collected by a boat that comes round. Land the dinghy at a small floating pontoon by the beach. A Carrefour supermarket, a Corsican butcher and a pharmacy lie 5 to 12 minutes on foot. Port Tino Rossi in Ajaccio sits 4.5 NM to the north for full services.
Ashore
The wreck of the Mario, a small tug, lies on sand in 6 to 7 metres near the buoys off a low stone wall on the beach, good for snorkelling. Straw huts and the beach restaurant Aria stand on the shore. The Tour de Capitello, a Genoese tower built in 1586, stands on the opposite shore of the gulf and is visible from the mooring.
