Guide
Approach and anchoring
Fluvial access via the Seine from Le Havre, about 65 NM upstream of Honfleur. Navigation governed by VNF rules, monitor commercial traffic and respect the rising and falling tide up to Poses; the stream runs hard past the moorings. Night navigation on the Seine is prohibited, so an overnight stop on this reach is unavoidable. Mud bottom on the pontoon moorings. Fully protected from wind by the urban banks.
Practical
Water and electricity are provided on the pontoon, but the halt looks little maintained and may be unattended, so do not count on them. Visitor space is limited as local boats occupy the pontoon, and mooring can come down to a few bollards. No fuel on site, nearest diesel at the port of Rouen commercial installations upstream. Rouen city centre 1.9 NM to NW walking distance, all shops, SNCF station.
Ashore
Rouen old town within 20 minutes on foot: Notre-Dame cathedral painted by Monet, Gros-Horloge, Place du Vieux-Marché where Joan of Arc was burned in 1431. Musée des Beaux-Arts and Aître Saint-Maclou ossuary close by.
History
Rouen was the capital of the Duchy of Normandy and a major port on the Seine from the Middle Ages. The river was deepened through the 19th and 20th centuries to allow seagoing vessels to reach the city, still today the westernmost river port for ocean-going ships on the Seine.
