Point on the Seine at the Poses-Amfreville dam, the tidal limit of the river upstream from Rouen. Anchoring is prohibited in the dam and lock zone.

Approach and anchoring

The Poses-Amfreville complex marks the head of the tidal Seine. Commercial lock operated by VNF on the right bank, pleasure boats share the chamber by VHF 18 request. Marks on the approach can be hard to read. Strong current below the dam on the ebb, wait for slack before approaching. Anchoring forbidden in the lock channel and weir zone.

Practical

No berths at the dam itself. Upstream of the lock the Seine is non-tidal and vessels continue towards Paris. Halte fluviale de Poses on the left bank 300 m SE offers water and power for a limited number of boats. Space is tight and boats often raft up; the public quay carries metal rings, but it shoals to soft mud alongside, so craft drawing around 1.5 m may touch the bottom.

Ashore

Poses village has a post office, a grocery that opens at 8 with baguettes gone by the afternoon, and a restaurant. A walk round the village leads to the weir below the lock.

History

The Poses-Amfreville dam, completed in 1885 and rebuilt in the 1970s, sets the boundary between the maritime Seine and the inland navigation Seine. It is the furthest point reached by the tide from Le Havre, 160 km inland.
