Marina of 1200 berths in the bay of Cavalaire, between Cap Cavalaire and Cap Lardier, Var coast.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open approach from the S through the bay, clear of the Sèche à Huile rock marked by a cardinal buoy off the W entrance. Harbour entrance to the SE of the town, red and green lights on the jetty heads. Max draught 2.5 m. Shelter is good except from SE swell. The harbour is under reconstruction, during the works a single entrance is in use rather than the two shown on the charts, and the mooring dinghy meets arrivals at the entrance to take a line. VHF 9.
Practical
1200 berths, fuel berth at the entrance, water and electricity at every pontoon. The dinghy takes lines and berthing help is quick. The harbour is being rebuilt, so the sanitary block is clean but for now well away from the pontoons. Reckon around 33 to 46 euros a night off season, fuel runs dear. An Intermarché is a short walk in town. Some quays catch music from the harbourside clubs late into the evening. Marines de Cogolin 6 NM N and Port-Grimaud 6.3 NM N as back-up.
Ashore
Sentier du littoral westbound to Pardigon and eastbound to Cap Lardier, part of the Conservatoire du Littoral protected coast of the Presqu'île de Saint-Tropez. Plage de Cavalaire of 2.5 km of sand right alongside the harbour. Musée Sous-Marin of the port tells the story of Operation Dragoon.
History
Cavalaire bay was one of the main landing beaches of Operation Dragoon on 15 August 1944, codenamed Alpha Red. Several wrecks from that day lie off the bay and are dived regularly.
