Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south between the Îles des Moines and the mainland, keeping a safe offing from the reefs and shoals of the Bouches de Bonifacio, and follow the channel in, especially at night, as scattered rocks lie near its entrance. Sheltered from NW through E, exposed to S and SW swell and the libeccio. The bottom is mud and weed with poor holding and boats drag readily, so lay plenty of chain, set an anchor alarm and stay aboard; grip is better on the channel side in 9 to 12 m and worst on the shallow 2.9 m patch. Watch the shoal along the beach and near the wreck at the head of the bay. A prefectural order has restricted anchoring here, so check the current rules before relying on it. VHF 9 for Pianottoli harbour.

Practical

No services at the anchorage itself. Land the tender at the end of the last pontoon on the left, near the buoys, at Pianottoli-Caldarello marina 0.5 NM NE, which has water, fuel and 200 berths. The village supermarket runs a shuttle from the harbour office, called on the number posted there, and there is a laundromat beside it. Figari airport is 14 km away, reachable only by taxi, which makes this a common spot for crew changes. Bonifacio commercial marina is 6.5 NM SE for a full resupply.

Ashore

Village of Pianottoli-Caldarello 1 km inland with a small grocery and bakery. Plage de Chevanu, white sand and granite blocks, accessible by tender 1.5 NM to the SW. Sentier du littoral runs east towards Figari bay.
