Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south, rounding the Îles Bruzzi and the Cala di Labra reefs SW of the entrance, and hold well off the rocks off Punta di Ventilègne. Watch shoals on an approach from the east. Sand and algae bottom, but the sand patches are limited among dense posidonia and holding varies, so set the anchor firmly and dive on it, as a boat has dragged in a morning breeze. Drop between 5 and 10 m, the head of the bay being shallow and better for lighter draught. Well sheltered from the grecale and levant, a good place to wait out weather before Bonifacio, but rolly in any westerly and exposed to the SW libeccio.

Practical

No services in the bay. Port de Pianottoli-Caldarello 2.9 nm to the NW for water, fuel and a small marina. Commercial marina of Bonifacio 3.6 nm to the SE with full services. Village of Caldarello at 2 km from the nearest landing beach.

Ashore

Plage de Ventilègne and Plage de Chevanu at the head of the bay, sand and low maquis. The Îles Bruzzi are a protected site classed under the Conservatoire du Littoral. Sentier du littoral runs from Plage de Chevanu westwards to the Baie de Figari over 4 km.
