Guide

Approach and anchoring

Anchor in 4 to 6 m on sand with patches of posidonia and dead matte. Holding is good, and an anchor held in 30 kn of westerly in August 2025. Unless tucked behind the islets, the bay is open to the W towards La Maddalena. Large underwater rocks lie on the east side of the anchorage near the beach. Watch for shoals and the nearby islets. The bay is crowded by day and clears in the evening.

Practical

A national park permit is required, and in July 2026 park staff checked boats twice a day. An 11 m yacht paid 48 euros for one day in June 2026. Bought online beforehand, the permit costs 40 percent less, and a weekly rate exists. A swimming area is buoyed between the two jetty heads. The eastern jetty has rough rock armour and protruding metal, and the beach east of it suits a dinghy landing.

Ashore

Walks lead to Garibaldi's house and to the Garibaldi Memorial at Fort Arbuticci. The hike up to the fortress on the hill takes about 40 minutes. Marked trails cover the north of the island. The former Club Med site is closed and patrolled. Cala Serena, a small beach, is close by. In 2025 groceries were found at a Conad supermarket, reached by dinghy across the water to the west.
