Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter on the leading line of two marks at the head of the bay, white by day and lit green at night. Rocks lie just below the surface near the entrance and the bottom rises there, so go slowly. Anchor in 2 to 3.5 m, deepest towards the middle, on mud and sand with very good holding. Anchors held in 25 kn easterlies in July 2026 and in 30 kn thunderstorm gusts in 2024. The bay is narrow. In high season boats swing close together.
Practical
Dinghies land at the small pier. A recycling point stands near the museum entrance and was overflowing in July 2026. The bus stop for La Maddalena is about 50 m from the jetty. In 2024 the bus ran roughly hourly at 1.50 euros, the last at 19:25. A taxi back cost 21 euros that year. No water was found in 2024. The park cafes close for the winter.
Ashore
The park museums cover island wildlife, minerals, the granite quarries and Sardinian sailing history. Entry was free in 2023. Paths run through the pine forest, including a 1.5 hour loop. Garibaldi's house and tomb are 35 to 40 minutes' walk away, Porto Palma 1 km. La Maddalena is 2 to 3 NM by dinghy in calm weather, landing at Cala Gavetta.
