East Cotentin: Cherbourg, Barfleur and Saint-Vaast
9 places · Cotentin
Cherbourg is the only Channel harbour open in any weather at any hour, behind its 4 km breakwater. To the east, Barfleur dries and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue opens through a gate two hours either side of high water, with the Tatihou anchorage as the waiting room. The Barfleur race is crossed at slack water; beyond it the D-Day beaches begin at Utah Beach.
