Approach and anchoring
Sag Harbor lies on Gardiner's Bay, with the marina centrally placed at the head of the harbour by Long Wharf. Berths are reserved by arrangement; the harbour also has transient capacity off the village.
Practical
Seventy-seven berths on fixed timber docks, with 480V shore power. Berth holders and transient guests can obtain permits for the adjacent private car park. Downtown Sag Harbor shops and restaurants are within walking distance.
Ashore
The Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum is at 200 Main Street, in an 1845 house built for a whaling-ship owner. The whole business district is the Sag Harbor Village District on the National Register of Historic Places.
History
Sag Harbor was a major whaling port; the first offshore whaling ships left in 1760 and Long Wharf was built in 1771. In 1789 it was declared the first official port of entry to the United States. The whaling trade peaked in the 1840s before kerosene displaced whale oil.
