Approach and anchoring

On the Waccamaw River reach of the Intracoastal Waterway, by marker 383. Approach is straightforward in the marked channel, with no tidal gate or lock. The river carries some current. Unlike the Murrells Inlet creek a few miles east, this marina has a direct ICW connection.

Practical

About 100 berths, wet slips and dry stack storage, plus trailer parking. Fuel dock with diesel and petrol, pump-out, shore power, restrooms and showers. Outriggers Bar and Grill sits on the dock. Plantation River Tours runs airboat trips from the marina.

Ashore

Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park are about 4 miles east by road. The marsh and cypress shores of the Waccamaw carry osprey and wading birds within sight of the berths.

History

The marina opened in 1954, built from the timber of houses and cottages that washed down the waterway after Hurricane Hazel struck the Grand Strand that year. The name comes from the Waccamaw people and is read locally as happy waters.
