History
Bucksport was founded in 1837 when Henry Buck of Bucksport, Maine, built steam-powered sawmills here to cut the longleaf pine of the Waccamaw forests. Timber from the mills was shipped to Charleston, New York and Boston, and was used in the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.
