Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open roadstead on the Atlantic coast of Oléron, only usable in settled weather with winds from the north-east or east. Sand bottom with rocky patches, holding fair on clean sand. Watch the Atlantic swell which breaks heavily on the beach in any westerly weight of wind. No navigation aids close inshore.
Practical
No facilities at the mooring. The Port de Saint-Trojan-les-Bains lies 2.7 nm south-east inside the Coureau d'Oléron, with 560 berths, water, electricity, fuel and shops. Port du Château-d'Oléron, 3.5 nm east, also offers visitor berths.
Ashore
Vert Bois beach backs onto the Forêt Domaniale de Saint-Trojan, 2000 hectares of maritime pine managed by the ONF. Cycle path and the small tourist train P'tit Train de Saint-Trojan run from the beach through the forest to Saint-Trojan village, 4 km away.
