Guide
Approach and anchoring
Shelter from the NW, N and W sectors, open to the E and S through the pertuis de Maumusson. The pass of Maumusson to the south is known for its shifting sandbanks and breakers in swell, so approach from the N via the coureau d'Oléron. Bottom of sand and mud.
Practical
Three buoys. No services on the beach. Saint-Trojan-les-Bains harbour lies 1.7 NM to the N for water and provisioning, and the dry port of Mus de Loup is 3.1 NM to the SE.
Ashore
The plage de Gatseau backs onto the forêt domaniale de Saint-Trojan, a pine forest of roughly 2 000 hectares crossed by waymarked footpaths. The little tourist train of Saint-Trojan runs along the dunes between the village and the beach from April to September.
