Anchorage in Town Creek along the Charleston peninsula, between the Cooper and Ashley rivers in South Carolina, with sand holding.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Town Creek runs behind the north end of the Charleston peninsula off the Cooper River. The anchorage is sheltered from north-east through south-east but stands open to the south, where wind funnels up the creek. Tidal streams run hard, so set the anchor well and allow swing room. The Charleston Maritime Center lies about 1.3 nautical miles to the south.
Practical
Anchorage only afloat. Seabreeze Marina is about 0.5 nautical miles to the south, and the Charleston Maritime Center, a city-run marina taking vessels up to about 120 feet, is about 1.3 nautical miles to the south with fuel and shore facilities.
Ashore
The Charleston Maritime Center sits within walking distance of the historic district. The City Market, King Street shops and Waterfront Park are all reached on foot from the landing on Concord Street.
