Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the S on deep water, the channel between Maïre and Tiboulen carries plenty of water but funnels wind and current. Anchor on rock close to the islet, holding is variable, prefer the sandy patches on the north side. Sheltered from S and SE winds, exposed to the mistral from NW and to any W swell.
Practical
No shore facilities. Nearest provisioning, water and diesel at Port des Goudes 0.8 nm E or Port de la Madrague 1.6 nm NE.
Ashore
The islet itself is a bird sanctuary, landing is restricted. The Calanques coastal path starts from Les Goudes and reaches Callelongue in about 3 km on foot.
History
The channel between Maïre and Tiboulen is the site where Cousteau and Dumas recovered the first underwater film footage in the 1940s and where the wreck of a Roman amphora cargo was surveyed.
