Approach and anchoring

Enter the Miles River from Eastern Bay and follow the marked channel into the harbour. Holding is good in mud. The anchorage lies open to winds from N and NE, so move to a marina berth if a northerly is forecast.

Practical

CBMM Members Marina is 0.1 nm to the W and St. Michaels Marina 0.2 nm to the SW, both with fresh water, shore power and showers. The town has shops, provisions and restaurants within walking distance of the waterfront.

Ashore

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum sits on Navy Point on an 18-acre campus, with a floating fleet of historic Bay workboats and the 1879 Hooper Strait screw-pile lighthouse. The shops and eating places of Talbot Street are a short walk inland.

History

St Michaels grew as a shipbuilding and oystering village from the 18th century. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum was founded in 1965 on the site of former seafood packing houses and workboat docks.
