Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Miles River and hold the channel past green daybeacon 3 towards St. Michaels harbour. Boats anchor in 8 to 18 metres of water roughly 100 yards off shore, with holding rated good. The basin sits open to the harbour mouth, so swell can work in on busy summer weekends.

Practical

St. Michaels Marina and Higgins Yacht Yard both lie 0.7 nm north-east, with fuel, water and a boat hoist. A water taxi runs from the anchorage to several town landings.

Ashore

St. Michaels town centre is a short tender or water-taxi hop north-east, with shops, restaurants and provisions on Talbot Street. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum sits on the harbour waterfront, with restored skipjacks and the 1879 Hooper Strait lighthouse.
