Transient marina on the town side of St. Michaels harbour, on the Miles River off Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Approach and anchoring

Harbour reached from the Miles River, itself entered from Eastern Bay in the upper Chesapeake. Approach is well marked and free of tidal complications, with a mean tidal range under half a metre. The marina sits on the western side of the harbour, a short way past the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum point. Call the harbour master on VHF channel 9.

Practical

54 transient berths taking vessels from 25 to 220 feet. Shore power, fresh water, WiFi and cable at the berths. Showers, heads, laundry and two pump-out stations. Marine store, swimming pool and bicycle hire on site. Three restaurants at the marina, with the shops and provisions of St. Michaels within walking distance.

Ashore

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum sits on the next point of the harbour, about 200 metres away, with the bugeye Edna E. Lockwood and several skipjacks. Talbot Street, the main street of St. Michaels, runs a few minutes' walk from the berths with shops, galleries and provisions.

History

St. Michaels is known as the town that fooled the British. During the Battle of St. Michaels on 10 August 1813, residents are said to have dimmed the town lights and hung lanterns in the trees so that British cannon fire overshot the town, sparing the shipyards.
