Approach and anchoring
The club lies on the inner shore of Shelter Island, off the main San Diego Bay channel and well sheltered from the Pacific swell. Berths are reserved for members and reciprocal guests.
History
Founded in 1886, the San Diego Yacht Club is one of the oldest in the United States. It held the America's Cup from 1988 to 1995 after wins by Dennis Conner in 1987 and 1988 and by Bill Koch aboard America in 1992. The trophy was kept on display at the clubhouse during that period.
