Approach and anchoring
Enter San Diego Bay and follow the channel into the Shelter Island basin. The anchorage A1 is marked by yellow buoys off La Playa. Bottom is thick sand and mud in 8 to 15 feet, with good holding. Vessels are limited to 65 feet overall.
Practical
Anchoring is free but a permit is required, booked online with the Port of San Diego at least 24 hours ahead. Use is limited to 72 hours, from 0900 Friday to 0900 Monday, with a maximum of 40 boats. Holding tanks must be used and pumped out ashore. Southwestern Yacht Club lies 0.1 nm to the south-west, Shelter Island Marina 0.2 nm to the east.
