Guide

Approach and anchoring

Sheltered from N and NE winds. Exposed to W, SW and the libeccio which builds a heavy swell against the coast. Approach from seaward leaving the rock to starboard or port depending on the chosen lay, stay well clear of its charted dangers and the shallow bank extending south.

Practical

Mouillage forain on sand between 4 and 10 metres, posidonia patches present; favour clear sand. No services. Cargese harbour lies 2.4 NM to the SE for water and basic provisions; Sagone 6 NM SE for fuel.

Ashore

Cargese sits on a cliff above its harbour and holds two facing churches from the 19th century, one Latin rite and one Greek rite, a heritage of the Greek colony settled here in 1676. Shops, bakery and restaurants in the village 300 m above the port.
