Approach and anchoring
Reached from the sea via the Arzal lock on the Vilaine, then 40 km upstream. Maximum draught 2 m. No tidal constraint above Arzal. VHF 9 for the harbourmaster.
Practical
160 berths on pontoons in a freshwater basin. Fuel berth on site. Water and electricity at pontoons. SNCF railway station 400 m from the port with direct trains to Rennes and Nantes.
Ashore
Old town with half-timbered houses around the Saint-Sauveur abbey church, 500 m from the pontoons. Weekly market on Monday morning, place du Parlement. Canal towpath open to walkers and cyclists towards Rennes and Nantes.
History
Redon grew around the Saint-Sauveur abbey founded in 832 by Saint Conwoion. The town became a strategic inland port after the opening of the Nantes-Brest canal in 1842.
