Approach and anchoring
Enter the Cherbourg roadstead through the Passe de l'Ouest or the Passe de l'Est. Querqueville lies behind a breakwater in the south-west corner of the rade, 2.6 NM WNW of Port Chantereyne. Shelter from all sectors except NE. Reduced depth on the approach at low water, consult tidal heights before entry.
Practical
Visitor berths on pontoons, maximum draught 2 m. Water and electricity on pontoons. Sailing club active on site. Bakery and small grocery in the village at 400 m. Cherbourg city centre with all services at 3 km by road, bus connection. Port Chantereyne marina and fuel berth 2.6 NM SE.
Ashore
Saint-Germain chapel, a small stone oratory dated to the pre-Romanesque period, stands on the headland 500 m from the port. Coastal path along the Digue de Querqueville toward Cherbourg. Fort de Querqueville, a Napoleonic battery, is visible from the quay but closed to visitors.
History
The port sits beside the western arm of the Cherbourg breakwater, the largest artificial roadstead in the world when completed in 1853 after 70 years of construction begun under Louis XVI.
