Approach and anchoring
Entry through the eastern pass of the Grande Rade de Cherbourg, the largest artificial roadstead in Europe. The harbour sits 1.4 NM east of Port Chantereyne. Max draught 1.75 m at the berths. Attention to cross tidal streams outside the roadstead.
Practical
50 berths, water on the pontoon. No fuel on site, nearest fuel berth at Port Chantereyne to the west. Bus connection to Cherbourg town centre.
Ashore
Coastal path along the Digue de Collignon beach to the east, 700 m. Le Becquet fishing hamlet 1.5 NM east, known for its slipway and oyster tables.
History
The Grande Rade de Cherbourg was built between 1783 and 1853 on Louis XVI's order, then completed under Napoléon III. The eastern breakwater protects Port des Flamands from Channel swell.
