Guide
Approach and anchoring
The bight lies off Quarry Beach, below the East Garrison buildings of Fort McDowell. It is sheltered from north-west through south-west, the prevailing summer quarter, but stands open to the east. Watch for a steep drop just east of the anchorage and keep clear of the ferry track. The Marina at Pier 39 is about 3 nautical miles to the south.
Practical
Anchorage only, no facilities afloat. Angel Island State Park lies ashore, with trails and the East Garrison historic site. Marotta Yachts in Sausalito is about 2.9 nautical miles to the west for berths and chandlery.
Ashore
A sand beach runs the length of the bight and is reached by tender. The Perimeter Road circles Angel Island in about 5 miles of walking or cycling, and a path climbs Mount Livermore. The East Garrison buildings beside the beach date from the First and Second World Wars.
History
Stone was quarried near Quarry Point from the 1850s and used to build fortifications on Alcatraz, the Mare Island Navy Yard and buildings in San Francisco.
