Approach and anchoring
Approach from the bay around Point Stuart, then into the cove on a north-east heading. Holding is good in mud, with depths of 3 to 4 metres. The cove is open to the east and south-east, but well sheltered from the summer westerlies. Boats lie to a bow and stern buoy and must moor with the bow facing north-east.
Practical
Twenty-seven mooring buoys and a dock managed by Angel Island State Park. Fresh water is available ashore. Day-use and overnight fees apply, payable to the rangers. Carry long warps, as the buoy pairs sit roughly 23 metres apart.
Ashore
Angel Island State Park covers the whole island, with a perimeter road walk of about 8 km and the climb to Mount Livermore at 240 metres. The visitor centre at Ayala Cove holds exhibits on the island's quarantine and immigration history. A dinghy dock gives access until 22:00.
