Guide
Approach and anchoring
The cove lies just inside the bay east of the Golden Gate Bridge, with a breakwater sheltering the inner basin. Strong tidal streams run through the Gate close by, so plan arrival and departure around slack water. The bay gives shelter from north and east winds.
Practical
Travis Marina sits about 0.1 nm to the east and offers berths and a waterfront bar. The Presidio Yacht Club has its harbour and clubhouse inside the breakwater. Marotta Yacht Sales lies about 1.5 nm to the north towards Sausalito.
History
Fort Baker is a former army post at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, built in the early 1900s and now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The army ran a marine repair shop on Horseshoe Cove during the Second World War.
