- Harbour
Drying harbour on the north coast of the Cancale peninsula, Ille-et-Vilaine, facing the Îles Rimains and Granville bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the NE to avoid the rocky foreshore extending from Pointe du Grouin. The harbour dries completely at low water, holding ground is sand and rock. Very large tidal range, up to 13 m at springs, one of the highest in Europe. No night lighting, approach at half flood or later.
Practical
Small drying harbour used mostly by local fishing and oyster boats, limited visitor capacity on legs or mooring. Cancale town centre with shops, bakeries and the oyster market lies 1.5 km south at Port de la Houle.
Ashore
Coastal footpath GR34 runs directly past the harbour north to Pointe du Grouin, 2 km, with views over the Chausey archipelago. Oyster beds of Cancale visible at low water, tastings on the quay at Port de la Houle 1.5 km south.
