Approach and anchoring
Open roadstead on the Rance estuary approaches. Strong tidal range, up to 13 metres at spring tides, so plan arrival near slack water. Seabed is weed on rock, holding is unreliable, drop in sandy patches when visible. Exposed to the east and north-east swell.
Practical
Water tap ashore. No other services. Port Picain dries at 0.2 NM to the NW and Port de Cancale at 0.9 NM to the S both offer refuge if wind shifts.
Ashore
GR 34 coastal path runs along the cliff to Pointe du Grouin at about 3 km. Cancale oyster market on the Quai Gambetta at 1 km, producers sell direct from stalls year round.
