Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east, entry between two long jetties with sectored lights. Deep-water channel for commercial shipping. Strong tramontane from the north-west can funnel down the channel. Maximum draught 4.5 m. VHF 9.
Practical
334 berths managed by the Régie du Port. Fuel berth on the leisure pontoons. Water, electricity, showers and WC. Shops, bakery and supermarket in the town 400 m from the marina.
Ashore
Plage Nord runs 4 km north of the entrance jetty, backed by dunes. Réserve naturelle de Sainte-Lucie, a protected island of 825 hectares, lies 2 km west across the Robine channel with signed walking trails. Narbonne and its 13th century Cathédrale Saint-Just are reachable by road 30 km north-west or by boat up the Canal de la Robine.
History
The harbour was opened in 1820 as the seaward terminus of the Canal de la Robine, itself a branch of the Canal du Midi built by Vauban in the 1680s to connect Narbonne to the sea.
