Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach by the Léguer estuary from the bay of Lannion, staying in the buoyed channel. The bar at the river mouth is shallow and the site dries at low water. Best entry two hours either side of high water. Shelter from W to NE winds behind the headland of the Yaudet.
Practical
Mooring buoys laid by the commune for visitors. No water or electricity on site. Nearest services are at the port of Locquémeau 1.9 NM west or at Lannion up the river.
Ashore
Iron Age and Gallo-Roman oppidum of Le Yaudet on the headland above the anchorage, with remains of a Roman wall and the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Yaudet rebuilt in the 17th century. Coastal path GR 34 runs along the cliffs, reaching Beg Hent in 400 m and Locquémeau beach in 3 km on foot.
History
Le Yaudet was a fortified settlement occupied from the Iron Age through the Gallo-Roman period and into the early Middle Ages. Excavations led by Patrick Galliou and Barry Cunliffe between 1991 and 2002 documented Roman ramparts and a 5th century Christian basilica.
