Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the pertuis Breton, keeping clear of the piles of the road bridge. The harbour dries at low water of springs and entry is limited to about two hours either side of high water. Maximum draught 1 m at the berth. Exposed to easterly winds which push swell into the basin. La Rochelle lies 3 nautical miles south-east across the bridge.
Practical
Small basin with pontoons and drying moorings managed by the municipal harbour office. Water and electricity on the pontoon. No fuel berth, nearest diesel at La Flotte-en-Ré 2.4 NM to the north-west or Port des Minimes in La Rochelle. Bakery, grocery, chemist and restaurants within 200 m in the village.
Ashore
Plage de Rivedoux stretches 2 km north of the harbour and is used for sand yachting and beginner windsurfing. The véloroute of the Île de Ré passes at the harbour and reaches Saint-Martin-de-Ré in 8 km. Oyster huts along the route du Phare des Baleines serve local Fines de claires.
History
Rivedoux was separated from Sainte-Marie-de-Ré as an independent commune in 1928. The pont de l'Île de Ré, opened in 1988 and 2.9 km long, arrives on the island at Rivedoux and ended the ferry service that had linked La Pallice and Sablanceaux since 1843.
