Approach and anchoring

Enter the rade de Brest through the Goulet and head east past the pointe de Lanvéoc. Mixed sand and rock, so sound before dropping. Shelter from NW through NE, exposed to the south and west where the fetch across the rade can build a short chop. Moulin Mer cove lies 1.1 NM east, Rostiviec 2.1 NM north across the Anse.

Practical

No facilities on the mooring. Naval school of Lanvéoc-Poulmic next door, respect the restricted military zone marked on SHOM chart 7401. Nearest fuel and water at Le Moulin Blanc marina, about 7 NM east by sea.

Ashore

Sentier côtier around the Anse de Poulmic, quiet farmland between Lanvéoc and Le Fret. Ferry link from Le Fret to Brest for a day trip by road 5 km away.

Story

The Anse de Poulmic hosts the French naval air base since 1926, where naval pilots train on the Rafale Marine before qualifying on the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
