Anchorage at the Pointe du Château in the rade de Brest, on the south shore of the Daoulas estuary in Finistère.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the main channel of the rade de Brest into the anse de Daoulas, rounding the headland close enough to avoid the shoals further offshore. Mud and weed bottom, holding fair once the anchor is set clear of the algae. Shelter from NE and E, open to winds from W and SW that funnel up the rade.
Practical
Fall back on Rostiviec 1 NM N or Moulin Mer 1.6 NM SE for a mooring buoy or sheltered anchorage if the wind turns west.
Ashore
Quiet wooded shore with the abbey of Daoulas, founded in the 12th century, reachable by road 4 km upstream. Coastal path GR 34 follows the south bank of the estuary.
