Approach and anchoring

Enter the rade de Brest through the Goulet, then head south-east into the Aulne. The anchorage lies in the bend below the village. Tidal stream runs strongly through the narrows. Mixed rock and mud bottom, holding varies with spot, sound the lead before dropping. Shelter from south-west through south to south-east.

Practical

Forain anchorage, no pontoon. Port de Tévennec lies 0.9 nm south for a sheltered berth. Moulin Mer is 1.5 nm north-west.

Ashore

The Abbaye Saint-Guénolé, founded in 485 by Saint Guénolé, stands at the edge of the village, with ruins of the medieval abbey and a museum on monastic manuscripts. The site is within the regional natural park of Armorique.

History

Saint-Guénolé de Landévennec is one of the oldest monastic foundations in Brittany, established in the late 5th century. The abbey was destroyed by Norse raiders in 913 and later rebuilt. Its scriptorium produced the Cartulary of Landévennec, a key source for early Breton history.
