Approach and anchoring
On the Marne between the lock of Cumieres about 500 m downstream and the reach of Damery upstream. Marked channel, speed limit 10 km/h. Current can run at the lock approach after heavy rain.
Practical
Short pontoon alongside for river cruisers. Water on the pontoon in season. Bakery and small grocery in the village within 300 m. Epernay town centre 4 km by road for full provisioning and trains.
Ashore
Champagne growers in Cumieres and Hautvillers, several houses offering tastings within 2 km. Abbey of Hautvillers where Dom Perignon served as cellarer from 1668 to 1715, about 2 km uphill on the north bank. Avenue de Champagne in Epernay 4 km, with Moet et Chandon and Perrier-Jouet cellars.
History
Cumieres has grown vines continuously since at least the medieval period. The Marne reach here is listed within the coteaux, maisons et caves de Champagne inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 2015.
