Approach and anchoring
Reached by the river Marne, navigable bief between Meaux lock and Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux lock. Freycinet gauge, guaranteed draught 1.80 m, bridge clearance 3.50 m. Maximum vessel 38.50 m by 5.05 m. Current noticeable after heavy rain, approach the pontoons heading upstream.
Practical
Around 30 berths on pontoons, water and electricity, sanitary block. No fuel on site. Bakery in the village of Poincy 500 m from the port, full supermarkets in Meaux 3 km west.
Ashore
Riverside walk along the Marne and towpath cycling on the Veloroute V52 Paris to Strasbourg. Meaux cathedral of Saint-Etienne 3 km west, a 12th to 16th century Gothic building. Museum of the Great War at Meaux at 4 km, covering the 1914 battle of the Marne. The Brie de Meaux cheese is produced in the surrounding dairies and sold at the Meaux market on Saturday mornings.
History
The Marne was canalised in the 19th century with locks and cuts to carry grain and building stone from the Brie to Paris. Poincy sits on the reach upstream of the confluence with the Ourcq canal.
