Approach and anchoring
Pontoon on the Marne, close to the town centre. Navigation at Freycinet gauge, 1.80 m draught. Lock at Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux downstream and lock at Méry-sur-Marne upstream.
Practical
The adjacent Port des 2 Rivières offers 22 berths for boats from 9 to 24 m with water and electricity on the pontoon. Boat hire available on site. Market, bakeries and supermarket in the town centre of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre within 500 m.
Ashore
Confluence walk along the Petit Morin towards the mills of Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin. Abbey of Jouarre, Merovingian crypt dating from the 7th century and one of the oldest in France, 3 km south. Disneyland Paris 40 km west by road.
History
La Ferté-sous-Jouarre was famous for its quarries of millstones cut from local siliceous stone and exported across Europe and to North America during the 18th and 19th centuries. The trade gave rise to the local nickname of the blue-handed men, from the dye used to mark finished stones.
