Open roadstead off Mimizan-Plage on the Landes coast, south of the Arcachon basin, sand bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west only in settled weather. The Landes coast is straight and sandy with constant Atlantic swell and no natural shelter. The Courant de Mimizan outlet breaks across a shifting bar and is not a practical entry for keelboats. Stand at least 0.5 NM off the beach to avoid the surf line.
Practical
Forain anchorage on sand, no facilities afloat. Landing by tender through the surf is hazardous. Town of Mimizan-Plage with shops, supermarket and restaurants within walking distance of the beach.
Ashore
Vélodyssée cycle route passes through Mimizan-Plage, linking the Landes forest pine tracks north to Biscarrosse and south to Contis. Étang d'Aureilhan lies 3 km inland with marked walking paths.
